LIGER at the Dentist!
Lion + Tiger = LIGER! Freckles was rescued from a failed backyard sanctuary in mississippi Dec 2008. 16 year old Freckles is one of the oldest Ligers around but she is one of the most recent arrivals to Big Cat Rescue. At the time of her rescue we could see a big hole in her jowl, and feared that it would lead to her demise, but she was in such bad shape that we just couldn’t risk knocking her out to get a better look. Being a cranky old cat, she wasn’t about to let us get a good look any other way either. She was given antibiotics in case it was just an injury, but now that she has become more calm in her new setting we can see that the problem stems from several broken teeth. Caged cats will often break off their teeth trying to chew their way out of their prison cells and when she was left behind to die in Mississippi she probably did just that.
The dental work was completed on Freckles without any problems and she as made a full recovery. Let’s hope that the dental as taken away her pain and she will have no more problems in the future.
This procedure cost Big Cat Rescue a lot of money so if you would like to help us pay for the cost of her treatment please visit: http://www.bigcatrescue.org/donate.htm

Yes he is, unfortunately breeding these cats is a cruel practice, since they suffer from so many health problems, they shouldn’t exist. But people like Hercule’s owner breed them to exploit and make money.

I thought Ligers …
I thought Ligers are sterile (like a mule which is a horse x donkey) so, if they came from the wild as Ni83co thinks their species wouldn’t survive simply because it can’t reproduce to continue on the genes.
Ni83co – These …
Ni83co – These animals wouldn’t exist in the wild. It is immoral that they are bred,as they can be prone to genetic issues due to receiving the weaker genes from both sides, not the stronger. Freckles is 16 & that’s a great age for a Liger. Thank God 4 places like Big Cat Rescue that can step in & give a home to these poor animals, away from those irresponsible enough to breed them for publicity & money. Keep up the great work BCR. (Also, polar & grizzly bears exist nowhere near each other)
You’re right, some …
You’re right, some territory might be shared in India where the asiatic lion lives also (only a few hundred left) but cats spray to mark territory and will do everything they can to avoid contact with other cats. Lions and tigers would not mate in the wild
